Pikki Rikki
A downloadable Playdate game
Just another bunny game?
Ah, how sweet life would be to be a bunny! To frolic, to hop around-...
Huh?
Let me stop you right there, bud! In Pikki Rikki, you play as Rikki, a bunny that just can't jump! Even so, you'll be picking pikk-plants with the Playdate's crank to boost yourself up and add time to speedy (mostly) 15 second stages. These stages will test your pikk-plant picking skills, time and time again!
I see! Not just any other bunny game!
Through 15 carefully crafted stages, spread out across 3 different worlds, aiming toward keeping things fresh, quick, and "bun"-... or, fun, rather, you'll be using that crank to pick pikk-plant after pikk-plant, collecting coin after coin, hopping from platform to platform, and just having a blast throughout!
Alright! How do I play?
Base Controls
Movement | Left/Right Buttons (D-Pad) |
Grab Pikk-Plant/Replant | A Button |
Pick Pikk-Plant (Crank Mode) | Crank |
Pick Pikk-Plant (Button Mode) | B Button |
Not only is this bunny versatile, but his controls are too! Keeping the comfort of personalization first and foremost in control types, the A/B buttons can be used instead of the crank, and swapped to a scheme that's best fit to your own preference!
Anything else?
Just a few quick notes will do!

Great game. are you planning to release an expansion with another world or a second game? :)
Thank you, I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed Pikki Rikki! In terms of what comes next, I'm still juggling a few ideas on where to go... I've got sprites worked out and different mechanic for each of these, but the three big ideas are:
Really, I think the sky's the limit for where I head next in this development journey, for both the Pikki Rikki game line and getting those ideas out there! In terms of ETA, though, it all depends on when I can get my ideas solidified... Either the holiday season of this year, or summer of the next, will be the time I put out the next game... Stay tuned!
Man, what a great game. Glad crank integration allows either direction. Nice touch in the 1.2 revision. I've made it through all levels except 3-5. Gosh, that part with the plants in between the spikes is tough. I've tried so many times. Any tips?
Also, I don't understand when I can run into a spike and it just makes me invincible for a bit vs when I can run into a spike and it kills me. Can you demystify that for me?
Thanks for the great game, Cole+!
I'm glad to hear you're having a bun-tastic time, as well as enjoying the updated crank control options, and the slight revision in the 1.2 update!
I think that the question on spike invincibility might be just the tip you'll need to complete 3-5 with! When holding a plant, the few seconds of invincibility take place, but if empty-handed, you'll lose a life right on the spot. The trick to 3-5 is really about determining just where to either jump or fall across gaps, and collecting enough Pikk-Plants to navigate those spikes! Good luck with the level!
And, thank you for the great comment! 🐇
so adorable!any plans to release this on Catalog?
I've definitely got plans to! I just need to finish up a few more details, and you can expect a future release!
CUTE
Thank you! 🐇
Had some time with the game. I really like it. At first i wasn't getting the gist of the gameplay but then with more time i understood it.
I noticed that in the first levels there was some arrows as a subtle hint on how to play but it took me a bit for my brain to process it. xD
I also felt the time limit was a bit strict with little margin for error but but that makes me practice the levels and then it got easier.
One thing that i would like is that any cranck orientation would pull the plants. I get it why is counter clock-wise movement since it makes sense since you're picking up plants but since the gameplay is so quick that sometimes you start turning in the other direction.
Top thing i love about the game is that Rikki is has cute animations and even the menu animations are slick in my opinion.
I'm definitely glad to hear that the gameplay had caught on over time!
With the size of the game, part of keeping things interesting was that small time window right there, and I'm glad that, in practicing those levels, the game became easier for you! As the game builds up in difficulty across the span of levels, it's good to get in practice with the shifts per level, all building up toward that final stage, a real test of your understanding of the game's mechanics!
I can totally understand the comment on the crank orientation too, the motion translates to picking up the plant in concept, but if it doesn't work too well for comfort, then it takes innovation and makes it into inconvenience. Given that cranking clockwise is what most of us are used to anyhow, and it wouldn't be too big of a change to the gameplay, it's something I can totally implement, like... right now! In the new build, there's "original", "inverted", and, "crankless" control schemes!
I'm glad you like the style of Rikki and the menus too! Your feedback is totally appreciated, through and through!
Nice. Thank you for the update. I already tried some earlier levels with the clockwise crank and it was more intuitive and faster for me even if i understood that the counter motion translates to picking up the fruit like you said the clock one is what we are most used to.
Keep up the awesome work
Since the idea was brought up (even just jokingly so), I'm genuinely curious! Would any of you like Pikki Rikki themed socks? If enough people do, I'm sure I could make that happen.
Got the game but can only try it after work. I'll give my comment later but about the sock, since the sock as a case meme for playdate is strong you could try some simple socks that fit well in the playdate and try a Rikki theme sock there would be cute.
Open a shop on something like Etsy, share it on reddit and here, and see how it goes. xD I guess shipping a sock might be cheap.
I can't wait to hear what you think of it!
And, yeah, I think that could be a good idea, setting up a shop on Etsy, designing those socks, making sure they're fit to hold, well, both feet and Playdates alike, and sharing it with the Playdate community! 👍✨
